  1. Aug 24,  · This 3 CD set was originally released on Vanguard and it shows. Very clean recordings of the exciting new blues of the mid 60s. The gatefold the CDs come in is very attractive and there is an interesting and detailed booklet included. I was researching 60s electric blues and all signs seem to point to this collection. They weren't kidding/5(36).
  2. COME BACK BABY Live from Chicago was released in with a bass, a drum, a guitar and Dawkins at the lead. Nothing else needed. Raw, tough blues on this live recording. At a very cool 59 minutes just play again and and see what makes these blues unique in its subtle eccentricities/5(6).
  3. At nine discs and tracks, The Complete Stax-Volt Singles: is far too exhaustive for casual fans, but that's not who the set is designed for -- it's made for the collector. Featuring every A-side the label released during those nine years, as well as several B-sides, the set is a definitive portrait of gritty, deep Southern soul.

  5. Aug 03,  · Back in , Future dropped his sophomore major label project, Honest, which compared to its predecessor (Pluto) was a step backwards. The album was an uneven hodgepodge of mostly sappy love jams.
  6. If the 50 tracks on this double-CD box sound an awful lot like they could have come off of any of MCA's various Chess boxes -- but especially the Willie Dixon volume -- it's no accident. Cobra Records was an upstart Chicago-based label that existed for a little over three years at the end of the s, founded by Eli Toscano and Willie Dixon as competition for Phil and Leonard Chess's Chess.
