  4. The best thing for me about this version of War and Peace is the magnificent score by Nino Rota. I had the vinyl recording of the soundtrack in the 50's when it came out and practically memorized it at the time. Later on, as my study of music progressed, I realized how Rota had so perfectly captured the essence of Russia with his music.
  5. Apr 10,  · I made a collage of clips from the movie War and Peace (Voyna i mir, ). This shows Napoleon's advance into Russia's heartland culminating in the battle of Borodino and the capture of Moscow in September. Translation of the dialogue (sorry for the lack of subtitles): Kutuzov: "Go along, and Christ be with you.".

  7. Napoleon's massive invasion of Russia (and his subsequent disastrous retreat from Moscow) was extremely well done in this film. The bloody Battle of Borodino outside Moscow is an especially taught, lively and gripping sequence in the picture, in which the Tsar's main Russian army slugs it out with Napoleon's Grand Armee'.Reviews:
  8. War and Peace on DVD. War and Peace is a commendable attempt to boil down Tolstoy's long, difficult novel into minutes' screen time. In recreating the the social and personal upheavals attending Napoleon's invasion of Russia, $6 million was shelled out by coproducers Carlo Ponti, Dino de Laurentiis and Paramount Pictures.
